How to reconstitute a peptide

  1. 1
    Prepare the vials

    Let the lyophilised peptide and the bacteriostatic water come up to room temperature. Wipe the rubber caps of both vials with an alcohol swab.

    Draw the diluent

    Using a sterile syringe, draw the required volume of bacteriostatic water. The less water you add, the higher the concentration and the smaller the draw volume per dose.

    Add the water slowly

    Aim the stream of water down the inner wall of the peptide vial, not directly onto the powder. Do not shake — swirl the vial gently until fully dissolved.

    Storage

    Store the reconstituted solution in the refrigerator (2–8 °C). Do not freeze. Avoid direct light and repeated warming.

Calculation formulas

  • Concentration (mg/ml) = peptide (mg) ÷ water (ml)
  • Draw volume (ml) = dose (mg) ÷ concentration (mg/ml)
  • U-100 units = draw volume (ml) × 100
  • Doses per vial = peptide (mg) ÷ dose (mg)
