How to reconstitute a peptide
- 1Prepare the vials
Let the lyophilised peptide and the bacteriostatic water come up to room temperature. Wipe the rubber caps of both vials with an alcohol swab.
- 2Draw the diluent
Using a sterile syringe, draw the required volume of bacteriostatic water. The less water you add, the higher the concentration and the smaller the draw volume per dose.
- 3Add the water slowly
Aim the stream of water down the inner wall of the peptide vial, not directly onto the powder. Do not shake — swirl the vial gently until fully dissolved.
- 4Storage
Store the reconstituted solution in the refrigerator (2–8 °C). Do not freeze. Avoid direct light and repeated warming.
Calculation formulas
- Concentration (mg/ml) = peptide (mg) ÷ water (ml)
- Draw volume (ml) = dose (mg) ÷ concentration (mg/ml)
- U-100 units = draw volume (ml) × 100
- Doses per vial = peptide (mg) ÷ dose (mg)
