Tissue repairBMP-7 (OP-1): a TGF-β family growth factor and the endogenous brake on TGF-β1BMP-7, or OP-1, is a recombinant TGF-β family growth factor, not a short synthetic peptide. It is the only molecule in this group that reached the operating room: as OP-1 it held FDA authorisation under a humanitarian device exemption before leaving the US market in 2014. This monograph covers why BMP-7 is better described as a brake on TGF-β1 than a repair signal, what the kidney models showed, endogenous antagonists, the carrier problem, the negative THR-184 phase 2, and what to check in an analytical package.
