Epithalamin, epitalon and pinealon share a historical connection to pineal-peptide research. Chemically, they are not one substance with three names. Epithalamin is described as a peptide complex, epitalon is a defined synthetic tetrapeptide, and pinealon is another synthetic short peptide.[1][2][3]

Epithalamin should not be equated with epitalon because the names look alike. For a peptide complex, composition, manufacturing and analytical profile matter. Evidence for that complex does not automatically become evidence for an individual synthetic tetrapeptide.[2]

Epitalon is a short molecule with the sequence Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly. A 2025 review collected cell, animal and limited human studies, while also noting unevenness and quality limits in the literature.[1]

Pinealon has a different sequence, Glu-Asp-Arg. Published EDR work mainly concerns cellular and preclinical models. It should not be presented as evidence for the same properties as epitalon or epithalamin.[3]

What to check when the names appear together

  1. Whether a defined sequence is named or the material is a peptide mixture.
  2. Whether the cited study concerns that exact substance rather than a similarly named object.
  3. The level of evidence: cell model, animal model or human study.
  4. Whether the COA (Certificate of Analysis, a batch-specific lab certificate) gives an expected mass and confirmation method for the specific molecule.
