What Ozempic and semaglutide are

Ozempic is a brand name whose active substance is semaglutide. Semaglutide belongs to the class of GLP-1 receptor agonists, molecules that mimic the natural GLP-1 hormone the gut releases after eating.

GLP-1 is an incretin hormone: it boosts glucose-dependent insulin release, slows gastric emptying and acts on satiety centres in the brain. Semaglutide reproduces this action but lasts markedly longer than natural GLP-1.

How semaglutide works

  • Satiety. Acting on appetite centres reduces hunger.
  • Slower gastric emptying. Food stays in the stomach longer, satiety comes sooner.
  • Glycaemic control. Glucose-dependent insulin release and glucagon suppression.

  • COA (Certificate of Analysis), a lab certificate for a specific batch: the substance's identity and its purity percentage by a third-party assay. No COA, no conversation.
