Form

Thymosin alpha-1 ships as a lyophilized (freeze-dried) powder in a glass vial; this listing contains 10 mg of substance. The peptide is hygroscopic, so the vial is opened only after it has fully equilibrated to room temperature, to prevent moisture from condensing on cold glass.

Reconstitution chemistry

For laboratory work the peptide is reconstituted with bacteriostatic or sterile water for injection. Concentration is easy to calculate: divide the diluent volume by the peptide mass. For example, 2 mL of water into a 10 mg vial gives 5 mg/mL. Add the liquid slowly, directing the stream onto the glass wall rather than straight onto the deposit; do not shake the vial, but swirl it or let it stand until fully dissolved. Thymosin alpha-1 is highly soluble thanks to its many acidic residues, so dissolution is fast and clear. Vigorous shaking generates foam and surface stress that promote aggregation of linear peptides, so it is avoided.

Storage

The dry lyophilizate is stored frozen (for example at -20 °C or below), protected from light and moisture; in this state it is stable for extended periods. The reconstituted solution is kept chilled (2-8 °C) and used within a limited window. Repeated freeze-thaw cycles degrade quality, so for longer storage it is best to aliquot the solution into small portions and freeze once. Document each warm-cool cycle.

Stability

The main degradation drivers for the peptide are moisture, heat, pH swings and mechanical stress. The acetylated N-terminus increases the molecule's robustness, but deamidation of Asn/Gln residues and oxidation can occur under adverse conditions. Prepare working solutions fresh and keep concentrated stocks cold. To minimize wall losses at low concentrations, use compatible buffers and avoid unnecessary surface contact.
