Physical form and specification
5-Amino-1MQ is a small-molecule NNMT (nicotinamide N-methyltransferase) inhibitor, a quaternary quinolinium (methylquinolinium) compound of low molecular weight, typically supplied as its iodide salt. It is not a peptide and is not an injectable: in research it behaves as an orally bioavailable small molecule. As a reagent it ships as a white to off-white powder in a sealed glass vial, with batch purity confirmed by HPLC (typically ≥98–99%). It is offered in 10 mg and 50 mg per-vial formats.
Storage
The sealed dry powder is the stable form. Keep the vial cool, dry and tightly closed, protected from light and moisture; for long-term holding store it in a freezer at −20 °C, where the solid tolerates months to years. Brief temperature excursions in transit are tolerated because the crystalline solid is inherently stable. Let a cold vial equilibrate to room temperature before opening so condensation does not settle onto the powder, and reseal promptly after each use.
Preparing working solutions and handling
Because it is an oral small molecule rather than an injectable peptide, there is no bacteriostatic-water reconstitution step and no subcutaneous administration. For in-vitro research the compound dissolves in aqueous buffer; prepare working solutions fresh, standardize them by concentration, and avoid repeated freeze-thaw of any stock. Weigh in a low-humidity environment, label the vial with the lot number and opening date, and discard any solution that develops turbidity or particulates.
Stability and pharmacokinetics
As a small quaternary salt the dry compound is chemically robust and far more stable than a lyophilized peptide. Its pharmacokinetics are short, not long: in rodent studies the oral half-life is on the order of ~7 hours (roughly 6.9 h), so it clears within a day rather than persisting for days. Systemic pharmacokinetics in humans have not been established.

5-Amino-1MQ is used to probe NNMT activity, NAD+ and one-carbon (methyl-donor) metabolism, and adipocyte biology, both in cell assays and in animal models, by competing with nicotinamide at the enzyme's substrate site. It is supplied strictly for research use only (RUO): it is not a medicine, food or cosmetic, has no approved human clinical use and no established human dose.
