IGF-1 LR3 (Long R3 IGF-1) is one of the most widely used tools in IGF-pathway research: a recombinant 83-amino-acid analogue of insulin-like growth factor 1 in which a Glu3→Arg substitution and an extended N-terminal peptide sharply reduce binding to IGF-binding proteins (IGFBPs). As a result, in research models the compound stays free substantially longer than native IGF-1.
Studied as a tool for investigating IGF-1R signalling and its role in cell proliferation and metabolism.
