Melanotan II is a synthetic peptide analogue of α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone and a non-selective agonist of the melanocortin receptors (MC1R and related subtypes). In the research literature it is studied mainly as a tool for investigating melanogenesis — the production of the pigment melanin — and melanocortin-system signalling more broadly.
Because it acts non-selectively across several melanocortin receptor subtypes, in research models the compound affects not only pigmentation but also related processes — appetite, energy homeostasis, and sexual function — which is what makes it a subject of its own branch of receptor pharmacology. At the same time, the medical literature includes case reports describing mole changes and a possible association with melanoma linked to this class of melanocortin agonists, which is exactly why the substance remains strictly a laboratory research subject rather than a cosmetic or wellness product.
Longeva supplies Melanotan II as a research substance: a lyophilized powder with an independent certificate of analysis (COA, HPLC) per batch and a stated purity of ≥99%.
