About

Humanin is a 24-amino-acid mitochondrial-derived peptide (MDP) encoded within the 16S rRNA region of mitochondrial DNA. It holds a landmark position in ageing and mitochondrial-biology research as the first identified member of the MDP class — peptides that carry signals from mitochondria to the nucleus.

In preclinical research humanin is studied as a cytoprotective, anti-apoptotic molecule: it binds the pro-apoptotic protein Bax, interacts with IGFBP-3 and activates pro-survival cascades, and in metabolic models it influences insulin sensitivity. Endogenous humanin declines with age, making it an intriguing subject for gerontological and neuroprotective research.

This is a frontier compound, rarely offered on the market, for laboratories working at the interface of mitochondrial and ageing biology. Supplied as a lyophilised powder for research.

Reference data — not a recommendation
The information below is provided from public sources for reference only. It is not advice or instructions for use; products are intended for laboratory research only and not for human consumption.

There is no established human dosing protocol for humanin. This reference collects only preclinical regimens studied in animals (mice): HNG 4 mg/kg intraperitoneally twice weekly (Yen 2020) and native humanin 0.7–2 mg/kg/day intraperitoneally (Hoang 2010). Every value is tied to a published DOI-cited source; there are no human equivalents.
