SS-31
SS-31
About
SS-31 (elamipretide) is a synthetic peptide used in research as a tool for working with mitochondria: it concentrates in the inner membrane and binds cardiolipin — the key phospholipid that the respiratory chain depends on. That makes it a convenient reference reagent in bioenergetics and oxidative-stress models.
Supplied as a lyophilized powder in salt form. Every batch is tested by HPLC, with typical purity of ≥98–99%. Each vial ships with a certificate of analysis (COA) and batch markings that are available for independent verification.
The full scientific detail — mechanism of action, structure, physicochemical characteristics and primary-source references — lives in a dedicated article in our wiki, linked from this page.
For laboratory and research use only (RUO). It is not a medicine and is not intended for human or animal consumption, diagnosis or therapy. Store the lyophilized powder dry and protected from light; a freezer is recommended for long-term storage, and once reconstituted keep it cold and minimize freeze–thaw cycles.
Q&A
What is the half-life of SS-31?
The half-life of SS-31 (elamipretide) is approximately 3–4 hours in healthy adults by parenteral administration, from the FDA pharmacokinetic review (NDA 215244, n=32). Not to be confused with the inactive M2 metabolite, whose half-life is considerably longer at 20.5–24 hours. See the Dosing section for detail.
